  • Wrong-provider keys are rejected — An xAI key (xai-…) saved under OpenAI was sent to OpenAI and failed as “incorrect API key.” Saving a key now checks the prefix, and image generation explains the mismatch instead of echoing the key

  • GPT Image 2.5 Flare and Sunburst — Current OpenAI image models in the picker; DALL·E 3 and DALL·E 2 selections map to these automatically
  • Fixed OpenAI image API calls — Removed the deprecated response_format parameter so generation and edits succeed with project keys (sk-proj-…)
  • Clearer errors — OpenAI failures show the provider message (quota, model access, invalid key) instead of a generic “rejected the API key”
  • Safer API key storage — Trim invisible characters and fix AES key parsing so saved OpenAI keys are not corrupted

  • Nano Banana first — The default Gemini image model shows as Nano Banana · Gemini 2.5 Flash Image in the AI bar and Settings so it matches what people search for
  • Prompts tuned for images — Image generation sends a short visual brief from your selection or nearby text instead of the whole note, and respects OpenAI DALL·E prompt length limits so DALL·E 3 and DALL·E 2 fail less often on long notes

Updates

  • Note writing keeps reasoning off — Ask AI uses models with thinking disabled where the provider allows it; always-reasoning models are hidden from the picker
  • Generate image is a mode, not a shortcut — Choose Generate image, describe what you want, pick an image model in the bar, then send. Nothing runs until you enter a prompt
  • Progress in the note — A placeholder appears in the document with an estimated percentage and Stop while the image generates; the finished image replaces it in place
  • Edit with AI on existing images — Select an image and press ⌘J (or Ask AI) to use it as input; the new image is inserted below the original
  • Installer — The deploy wizard ends on a Finished step with your Dotnote address and a short hint if the site is still starting

Updates

  • Dotnote updates itself only with the Cloudflare permission it received from the installer. Settings › Cloudflare no longer asks for an API token
  • Deployed with wrangler? Run the installer once for the same Worker (repair keeps your notes). Dotnote then updates itself like any guided install
  • When an update cannot reach Cloudflare, the message now says what to do

Dotnote 0.2.4 — Updates without signing in again

Updates

  • Automatic updates: turn on Settings › Updates › Install new releases on their own and Dotnote checks every 30 minutes and installs new releases, even with no tab open. Off until you turn it on
  • An update that a closed tab left halfway now finishes on its own
  • Signed releases: Dotnote checks the release signature and every file before it installs anything, and refuses a release that does not match

Cloudflare

  • Unfinished installs: if the install page closed before Dotnote received its Cloudflare permission, open the installer and choose Continue here to finish from any browser

Dotnote 0.2.3 — Translate languages and DALL·E

  • Translate to opens a language submenu in the AI bar — pick a target and run in one step

Installer

  • Update or repair an existing Dotnote instead of stopping when a Worker is already on your account
  • Review step reflects existing resources so reinstall and repair flows are easier to follow

Optional registration

  • Settings › Account — opt in to register this deployment with Dotnote Cloud for operator notices (no note titles, bodies, or passwords)
  • View exact payload before you consent; turn registration off anytime in Settings

Fixes

  • No more empty flash on open. While workspaces and docs load from cache or the server, the sidebar and editor show loading placeholders instead of “Select a note or create one” with an empty Docs list
  • Sample entry primes your session before redirect so the playground opens with less flicker
  • Offline manifest failure shows a retry action instead of looking like an empty workspace

Self-update

  • Dotnote updates itself. When a new version is out, the sidebar offers it: database changes are applied, the Worker in your Cloudflare account is replaced, and the page reloads
  • Your notes in R2 and D1 stay where they are; the update only swaps Dotnote's code and adds new tables
  • Settings › Cloudflare shows the running version, checks for updates on demand, and can go back to the version you updated from
  • Uses the Cloudflare permission stored at install — if it cannot replace the Worker, the sidebar offers Reconnect
  • Dotnotes installed from this version on update themselves

AI images

  • Generate images from the AI bar with Google Gemini — preview the result, then insert it into the note
  • Images save to your R2 bucket like pasted uploads
  • Pick the model and aspect ratio in Settings › AI Image; it uses its own Gemini key, separate from the text model

AI models

  • Model pickers show input and output pricing for each model
  • The active provider list only offers providers you have added a key for
